The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

I agree. It is one of the few early game fights that I go into with a specific plan. There have been runs where I wait until my party is level 3 so they can tank that first lightning bolt she always seems to be able to get off. After that, a party of six can usually deny her spellcasting with...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

I scouted out the Friendly Arm Inn as I was heading to the Gate. I couldn't help but wonder if my enemy kept an envoy there just in case. I circled the keep, but couldn't really see anything over the wall. I did find some kind of magical ring in a cluster of trees. I also meandered around the...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

Honest work it was, then. I took a temporary assignment with a local mercenary company to ferret out some bandits in the region. It seemed a little hypocritical, but I figured that bandits had gold, I needed gold, and nobody would care if someone stole from bandits. The company owner wanted to...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

After a long and fruitful philosophical debate with chatgpt, we have reincarnated "Garrett" into something more viable for this series. I actually could have sworn I've run this character before under a different name, but I checked my post log here and apparently it was a figment of my...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

I think a literal interpretation of the character was the problem. The quantum mechanics, as it were of the Thief world are incompatible with BG. I'm planning to take another bash at it, once I figure out how to create a BG version of Garrett's competencies in Thief.

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

It kinda depends on how you play it. There are mines (explosive, flash, and gas) but you can easily get by without them. But, I've ghosted the first two games, so I would have been fine with an empty inventory. But you can also knock everyone out and stash the bodies. There are traps in the...

    Industry News / Upcoming Games

Yeah, this seems to be the direction the industry is going. It sucks for people that care about the new hotness. I honestly don't see why anyone cares about the AAA scene anymore. Increased prices, decreased quality and post-release support. It makes no sense to me.

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

If I was making my choice based just on weapons, I'd agree. I think there are a lot of great daggers and some of them (the 2d4 throwers) beat out the short swords. I think firetooth is the best non-staff backstabber. What weapons do you like for the fighter/thief?

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

So, I had an interesting conversation with chatgpt about this. What a rabbit hole. Sometimes I'm too analytical for my own good. The main disconnect between the games is a) a bg thief just isn't as competent or versatile as Garrett even optimized at max level and b) the vanilla thief isn't the...

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

this is definitely a solo run. I want to stay as true as I can to the character concept while also making the character play like Garrett would, at least in spirit if a vanilla thief can't hack it. That being said, I think it skews the model if I am not doing any real direct confrontation...

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

I don't have traps at low levels. I play classic, so I have to wait until BG2 for traps. THAC0 10 is pretty bad. You finish BG1 at THAC0 16. A doppleganger has an AC of 0. Sarevok's AC is -5, Angelo and the demon knight at the end of DT is -1 and the Tanar'ri is -9. For a vanilla thief, you are...

Bringing Garret from Thief into Baldurs Gate

We're talking about this guy. I started to post a solo run in the candlekeep annex with a vanilla thief, but it just didn't work out. He just wasn't competent enough for backstabs. Granted, part of this was RNGesus messing with me, but even still, there was a LOT of whiffing. Yeah, these are...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

lol...yup, already calling it quits. I spent the better part of an hour kiting Zargal around a rock hopping in and out of stealth so I could try and take him out for the +2 short sword. And this was after softening up his team with an oil of fiery burning. By my calculations, I should have had a...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

"The essence of balance is detachment. To embrace a cause, to grow fond or spiteful, is to lose one's balance, after which, no action can be trusted. Our burden is not for the dependent of spirit." - Mayar, the Third Keeper I knew this day was coming. The Keeper of the Tomes always seemed to...

The Candlekeep Annex: RPed Baldur’s Gate No and Low Reload Adventures

I have never really soloed this game. I have done games where my main has outshined the party so I basically left them behind, but even those runs have run out of steam. I figure I would post to this thread because I feel like I have already clogged up the forum with too many unfinished game...

    Disco Elysium Support Group

I am having some trouble with this game, specifically connecting with it. I don't think the game is bad by any means. In fact, it is one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen. The mechanics for the game are just so well done. The audio and visuals are just Art with a capital A. I really...

BG Classic Trilogy: The one where I've lost my marbles

Just when I thought I was out... I have no idea why. I just have a hankering to solo this game. I really need to consider changing my previous 0/5 rating for it. I think that was partly motivated by the fatigue you feel at the end of a straight run. Like, you think a marathon is a great idea...

What game are you currently playing?

I watched the animated mini not that long ago and it really punched me in my heartspace. I was tempted to get the game, but I know I can't run it on my current machine. Maybe someday and another computer away I'll eventually pick it up on GoG.

I get less worried about AI every day

I never really thought of it that way. I might say that I fall into that category. I've never experienced unconditional positive regard, except maybe from my grandmothers, but I also grew up in a rough place. The long and the short of it was that I developed a pretty thick skin. I'm not...

I get less worried about AI every day

@BelgarathMTH I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Losing a pet is never easy. I agree with your perspective on AI in schools. My wife works in education and is just disenchanted with how much her students use AI and how little they actually know because of it. They're graduating because that's...
