Don't take this personally,
@rpggamer329182 . I noticed there is a certain element of not understanding why game X or Y is good in a few of your posts; that's fine. It would be the same for me, if I were asked about certain live-service games, FPS shooters, or some other games, including GTA.
This thread alone (the role-playing posts in it) should be a good illustration of why TES games are so appreciated by their fans. The freedom they provide needs to be used by the player, ofc, and it might not fit everybody. Also, Skyrim in particular is a game from 2011. People who fell in love with it most likely played it in 2011 and for them it meant something, compared to other games released until that point. In 2026, it might not work at all, especially if you didn't play it in 2011. It's fine. Even the game you mention, Pillars of Eternity 2, wasn't released in 2011. Heck, even the first PoE wasn't.
For me personally, and it doesn't matter much if it's Oblivion or Skyrim, it's the feeling of role-playing as the character in this or that particular playthrough. What background do they have? What are their priorities? Who will be their friends? That kind of stuff. Plus, for me personally again, Skyrim DOES have the feeling of nostalgia because I played it in 2011 and my gaming experience was limited at that point. I wouldn't use a mod such as Requiem for the first or the second playthrough, like, at all. It's a different game with that mod.
