I've been rolling another character for a new Baldur's Gate playthrough and, suddenly, got the highest roll ever in 20+ years. 98!

I rolled a 100 for a Totemic Druid in IWDEE. It was kind of anti-climactic though. Who needs 100 points for a character who basically just stays in the back and summons cool, bad-ass animals? Oh well, it was sweet to see that 3rd digit anyway... 😎
Well you can have a back character that actually hits something with ranged attacks when he has no useful spells to use.

My best (manual) roll was about two years ago, 100 with 18/00 STR for a Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger:

She's also the only character I've no-reloaded into the final fight in ToB, but I've never finished it because of bugs...

If you factor in race and class, then my current 97-point halfling priestess comes pretty close.

Very nice! That's actually part of the fun I can have with my priestess of Helm Amity. Like those touch spells, her Seeking Sword can be paired with an off-hand weapon without any penalties. So that's 4 APR (5 with Haste or Righteous Wrath, 8 with Improved Haste), awesome for a single-class Cleric, especially with buffs.
I also found a way to unequip the Seeking Sword: shapeshifting with Relair's Mistake or the Cloak of the Sewers. So if Amity wants to re-apply some buffs mid-battle, she can shift to wolf and back to human to cast her spells without having to wait for her Seeking Sword to expire. This still takes two rounds, so it requires some time management, and emergency spell-casting will have to come from Quayle or Aerie.
I don't think you'll need it as much since your touch spells don't block spell-casting, but it can be useful if you want to switch to a ranged weapon perhaps?

Will we read about your 'touchy' Fighter/Mage? (Probably only if the Elder Scrolls don't take up too much time...)

Hehehe, I might get to a BG playthrough once I finish with the Elder Scrolls games, which are really long and detailed. So far, I've been having a blast with role-playing there.

As for the touch spell + an off-hand weapon, it's easy.

On a F/M, my default weapon (at the start of BG1) is a throwing dagger, with a ninja-to equipped in the off-hand (2 pips in daggers and scimitars respectively). When I cast Cold Touch, it switches to the touch spell + the off-hand weapon. Imagine the possibilities when it comes to BG2 with speed weapons in the off-hand.

This touch spell has THAC0 defined by your class and STR, same for the off-hand weapon. No penalties for dual-wielding. It also feels cool to use touch spells, finally. And @Blackraven noted that you can even dispel the touch spell if you don't need it by shapeshifting with Relair's Mistake or the Cloak of the Sewers.

You can also just equip the off-hand weapon after having cast the touch spell or the magically created weapon. Amity walks around with a shield, and puts her main weapon in the off-hand after she's cast Seeking Sword. It works the same with the necromantic touch spells.
