Next we took on some Hobgoblins that included wizards. One was made ineffective by means of silence. The other was attacked using poison and their mirror image was effectively dispelled using true sight. Once the wizards were eliminated the rest of the hobgoblins were effectively dealt with using melee by my tanks whilst my thief used his shortbow and the dragon disciple used magic missiles.

Upon exit we bought a "Gift of peace."
Next we killed Llyrk using spells to counter his.
The battle was not long.

Then we fought a band of ogres including an ogre-mage. We fought him first using true sight, silence and the like. Two ogres attacked Thiefhelm and I deenes that useful. The rest of the party killed the other ogres whilst Thiefhelm led those two round and round the arena until they were the only two left. Vastly outnumbered, the last two quickly fell.

We bought destroyer of the hills and the ring of fire resistance.

EDIT

After dealing with a lot of ankheg we were able to buy the priapt of proof against poison and a few antidotes to poison. Hopefully we will now be able to defeat poison users without too much difficulty. We are poor, but better equipped. We still need to buy another suit of full plate armour.
At this level having good defence is essential.
When Baeloth gave the enemy portals to bring in reinforcements, we destroyed the portals quickly once the ogre mage was killed. After that, it was just a matter of time.
Thiefhelm is now level 7 and I would have liked to have dual-classed to mage, but if and when we escape, I will want his thieving ability in Durlag's Tower, he will therefore have to stay at level 7.
We still need 3000gp to get full plate armour, and there is a lot of other equipment that we would like to buy: rings, amulets, +2 weapons and the like, though +2 weapons are not yet available.
Another run in with ankhegs allowed us to fork out on Evanter's Gift.
Still more run ins with ankhegs and we finally bought Dark Helm some full plate armour. We are poor again!
Fought a tough battle after which we were given a substantial amount of gold and +2 weapons became available.
Most of the party now has one +2 weapon and one +1 weapon.
We beat the trolls and slime by using fire to kill them.
The battle against the shambling mound and clay golems was touch and go, but we prevailed barely.
The ice salamanders were much easier, so much so that we fought them several times in order to buy better equipment..
Now reached the experience cap. The only major item that I need is the robe of the evil arch=mage.
However, just to get a small supply of potions of magic shielding took one trip to "Ice to see you," and to get potions of extra healingg would take another trip. Getting all the potions that they wanted/needed would take numerous visits.
One visit got each party member 2 potions of extra healing: another bought Blackhelm a Composite longbow +2 plus some arrows in case we need to kite.

The Fire Giant WAS killed, but we had to use almost all of our resources to succeed! We will have to replace them if we are going to beat Baeloth!

Accumulating resources by fighting the Ice Salamanders. Straightforward but time consuming.
One trip gained two potions of extra healing, another potions of fire resistance: the next a potion of absorption for each party member.
It took three visits to buy the belt of inertial barrier.

The fire giant was the hardest battle, but now...

Yeah, I figured nobody cares about stuff that isn't interesting, least of all I tbh. I wouldn't want to give proper narration to uninteresting things. Originally I wasn't going to jot down the ogre encounter either until it got that nice hit in on Imoen and I started needing to use the caravan tactically (and Montaron's sword breaking mid-fight was just drama gold). I'm sure a lot of scenes will grow out organically like that as I keep going.
Yeah, lot of small encounters and things like that get interesting, and it's fun to write it down. And I think it will be even more fun to read it in few years time. Have you ever written anything before this? For me this here was the first time writing a story.

I'd love to see you roll up a new character and get to read along in real-time, one update at a time. Are you chronicling your Doom 2 no reload here anywhere?
Thanks, got to just think whether I will prioritize it or one of 100 other things on list :D As fun as it is, playing and writing takes a lot of time. And I lost a bit of motivation when I managed to beat it. But it does sound intriguing to start another char :)

Doom 2 just started pretty randomly and I added the no-reload part to add a bit of excitement - i learned on this forum how much more fun no-reload is. Haven't documented it (not sure how much fun that would be tbh) and I died once in mid game, forgot one part and went into a trap :D so it's low reload now

My last post got me thinking - I mentioned before that I'd never written anything prior to sharing Luke and Conan's story here (Fusrodah was just a test project), and I genuinely loved the experience. This forum and everyone documenting their runs actually inspired me to actually start writing a fantasy book.

With that in mind, I'd love to ask a favor: if you read Luke and Conan's story, I'd really appreciate an honest review. Writing style, plot, pacing, characters - whatever stood out to you, good or bad. Especially the bad. I want to improve for my next project, and vague encouragement won't get me there.

No need to be gentle. Honest feedback is the most useful thing you can give me. Thanks in advance!

I'll have a look, but in the meantime here is my party imported into Candlekeep.

BG1 should be VERY straightforward, but the experience cap in Siege of Dragonspear should make that harder.

My wealth fell dramatically from 36757gp to 539gp. :( At least I am well equipped.

This time I am playing with my cleric of Helm as the PC. I may play it again with a different character as the PC.

I have written stuff before mostly on the Beamdog forum. I used to write on another forum. I think that it was called Gamespot. However it deteriorated.

Journal of Dark Helm.

After leaving Candlekeep, Gorion was killed. We went to the FAI and then northwards where we killed Sonner et Al. Afterwards we joined up with Tenya who has accompanied us to Beregost and then Nashkel where we found suitable armour for her. We went to see farmer Brun and took his son's body to him.
We are now at Durlag's Tower and have defeated the four warders. We rested for both healing and to remember our spells. Tenya has told us about a witch who can teach her how to use her bowl.

We searched that witch out first and defeated her. We then said farewell to Tenya and picked up Dorn. We killed Kryll and bade Dorn farewell.

We have no returned to Durlag's Tower.

I have decided to start again in the Black Pits with a chaotic evil assassin as the protagonist as I feel that such a character would make a great Lord of Murder.

I may come back to this later if it doesn't work out as I would like it to.

I was using my talents as a thief to avoid being spotted by one of those self-righteous paladins when there was a flash of blue light and I found myself bound by a geas to that self-same paladin and four others in Baeloth’s Arena. We would never have chosen each other as companions, but had no choice in the matter. If we ever escape this arena, I can’t imagine that Katrina and I staying in the same party.

Those of us who had no armour fell quickly, but Baeloth raised us after the battle.

I insisted on some studded leather armour, the best that was available. Katrina and Dark Helm protested as they still had no armour, but were pacified when promised some in the future.

We were able to fulfil our promises after the next battle, though we could only afford splint mail for Dark Helm.

After defeating the Boozy Bumblers, we were able to buy plate for Dark Helm and a second katana for Blackhelm.

Only and Dark Helm have reached level 4, the rest only level 3.

After dealing with a mixed party of hobgoblins I bought Katrina “Destroyer of the Hills.”

We then had a necromancer to deal with along with his summoned skeletons. We directed our attacks solely upon him and thus triumphed.

After killing a mixed group of ogres we bought “Gift of Peace” for Katrina and “Destroyer of the Hills” for Bjorn.

Baldr092.jpg

After fighting a mixed group of enemies, we were able to buy two suits of full plate and two katanas +1.

Killing the ankheg enabled us to buy two axes +1.

We then killed a number of spiders after which we bought Batalista’s Passport and Priapt against Poison for Bjorn.

After fighting a bunch of thieves, I dual classed to being a mage. At the same time Dragonhelm learnd Melf’s Minute Meteors. A significant moment for the party.

All my tanks now have +1 weapons, not so my mages.

We need several scrolls for myself and two suits of full plate armour for the party. That needs a LOT of gold.

EDIT

Another trip to the ankhegs earned me enough gold to buy most of the level 1 spells which I memorised.
Yet another bought the rest of the level 1 spells and a few level 2.
Dealing with the ogre mages and the portals first made the next battle winnable if not easy.
Fire was all that was needed to finish off the trolls. :)
When we had to fight a shambling mound and the clay golems, I was so glad that I had invested in +2 flails and the like. We won and I was able to buy some more full plate armour plus some lesser items.
Taking on the ice salamanders is safe and earns 6000gp, so I will keep visiting them until I have the equipment that I want/need, probably 10 visits or more.
Every new piece of equipment makes the next battle a little easier: first a fourth suit of full plate, then a second +2 katana and a bunch of level 2 and level 3 scrolls for me.

I have realised that I should have dual-classed at a much higher level, probably 10 or higher therefore I am dropping this run and starting this.

At first things were straightforward, but the battle that brought the party up to level 5 was very touch and go.
At least we earned a lot of gold in that battle, so we can improve our equipment: Two suits of full plate, two katanas +1: 3 daggers +1 and one axe +1.
After the next battle I bought a flail +1 for Tempos

The battles have not been too bad and Asp the Assassin dual classed to mage at level 10.

After that we fought the ice salamanders repeatedly in order to fill the spell book of Asp and also to regain thieving abilities.

We have all now reached the 600,000 experience cap. However, there is still a lot of equipment that we need.

I have just finished another Black Pits run, this time with a party of 5 good alignment characters. It's not difficult if you take your time. Here are their stats on being imported into Candlekeep.

I am considering playing them solo after this run. The Dragon's Disciple is quite powerful. I've only recently been trying them.

This time only one of the portraits is anything to do with me. Katrina's portrait is a fusion of a portrait of Cassandra found on the web, (There are quite a few available) and my own photo taken at Fountains Abbey.

Carrying on my Ffion the Flail run in the Sword Coast. It is very different to my usual runs.
I went to Durlag's Tower early and finished it.
Baldr008.jpg
Baldr009.jpg

Then dealt with Aec' Letec after Drizzt joined the party.

Baldr010.jpg
Baldr011.jpg

I dropped Bjorn Berserker to make room for Wulfgar when we started the Drizzt Saga in the nine hells. That was a mistake, but one that I can live with. Bjorn is good even if less experienced than Wulfgar.

Baldr012.jpg
Baldr013.jpg

The battles against the Tanarii and Belhifit were time consuming but successful. We had to use a LOT of healing potion. It's just as well that we have quite a few in reserve.

There are quite a lot of demonknights, all of whom are tough, as are the slayers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the party gets wiped out.

If I play the saga again, I'll stock up on even more healing potions!

Marilith almost ended the run.

I was tempted to let Drizzt leave me, but decided to take the risk!

Changes in the Drizzt Saga force you to drop party members in favour of Drizzt's friends. I don't like that.
If I do this mod again, I will do it solo at the end of BG1.
The changes to the mod are definitely NOT an improvement. :(

Well, we have fought Artemis Enterai and Jarlaxle, but I would not say that it was a victory as we lost half of our party members.

We lost both our mages and all their wands! :( We were able to pick up Regis afterwards though.

We returned the baby to the bear tribe.

Having done that, it used to be possible to return to the Sword Coast, but we appear to be trapped in Icewind Dale.

Does anybody know how we can return other than using Movetoarea?

Also I have found a bug. Regis had his constitution reduced to 4 by a vampyre.

Tried lesser restoration, a greater restoration scroll, and dispell magic. None of them worked!! However, by killing him, raising him, and healing him, he was fully restored.

I am not happy that both my mages disappeared with their equipment. I think that was a bug as well.

I let them go to enlist the Drizzt Saga NPCs and they disappeared so that I couldn't re-enlist them. :(

This is how Icewind Dale went.

Baldr017.jpg
Baldr018.jpg

Baldr019.jpg
Baldr020.jpg

And this is how the party would be if I used Movetoarea to exit Icewind dale.

Baldr022.jpg
Baldr023.jpg

Baldr024.jpg
Baldr025.jpg

However, at the end of Icewind Dale I think that Drizzt and Regis are supposed to leave so I would be left with a party of Two.

I am thinking of running BG1 again but with a different protagonist. Dragonhelm the Dragon Disciple would make a change as I haven't played with a Dragon Disciple as the protagonist before.

However, before doing that I am thinking of running an evil party through Black Pits and having a murderous Lord of Murder.

If it plays correctly I could then have Artemis Enterei and Jarlaxle in my party. I'm not sure whether I could take them into SoD.

Journal of the Disciple

None of us chose to enter the Black Pits, and none of us chose those in our party, so it is hardly surprising that when we escaped, we each went our own way. I owe my life to some of them as at first I was quite weak. The same could not be said now. Gorion found me and took me to Candlekeep where I slowly recovered from my ordeal. let's hope that my life will now be less eventful.

Baldr006.jpg

Will only enlist other party members to do their quests. Have done Tenya's and Dorn's and am now solo again.

Killed Mulahey and recruited Xan. Did his quest and said farewell to him at the FAI.

I was surprised at how easy the mines were to my solo character.

I returned to Beregost and was told by Elminster of the bandit camp to the north-east, but when I tried to go there, it wasn't on my map! :(

I therefore went to fight Tranzig and killed him. Hopefully that will open up the area.

EDIT

It did, and I have killed Brotus Bloodthirsty ad his party. We were attacked by bandits, so after killing them we rested and then killed the rest.

Now in Cloakwood.

At the top of the mine, I misjudged my position and ended up being very badly hurt and had to flee. I am no longer over-powered!

Baldr014.jpg

However, on the plus side I levelled up and am now level 12.

A summoned skeleton warrior dealt with Hareishan and most of the guards. My spell choices were then very limited so I summoned another to finish the job off.

I then rested, not to heal, but to memorise more spells. Going to the bottom of the mine, skull trps dealt with those awaiting me. I then used my wand of monster summoning. This separated the battle horrors. One attacked me and I killed him with great difficulty, being badly wounded.

My other summoned monsters died, but killed one battle horror, but I had to summon more and use my own magic missiles to finish off the last one.

A couple of summoned skeleton warriors finished off Davaeorn. Other summoned monsters were only cannon fodder used to make Davaeorn use up his spells.

Victory!! :)

Definitely NOT overpowered any more!

I have just realised: that with the Cloak of Reflection bought in the Black Pits; the wand of lighning becomes an amazingly powerful weapom that will be ideal for killing Saravok.
I'll even be able to set off traps to my own benefit.

That however. is in the future.

First of all I had to go to Baldur's Gate with Dorn to finish his quest.

We were successful, or at least I was. Dorn was killed and I decided that his death would be permanent. His continued existence would be detrimental to the Sword Coast.

Baldr015.jpg

I went with Tenya to the temple of Umberlee to finish her quest and then bade her farewell. She then returned home under her own steam.
Doing the BG quests has boosted reputation to 18 already.

Having done them, I am now back at Candlekeep.

The battle at the Iron Throne was made easier by summoning skeleton warriors and luring my enemies down to fight them one or two at a time.

EDIT

Just left the Candlekeep Catacombs and returned to the FAI. Some of the battles were difficult due to unfamiliarity with Dragon Disciple kit, but ultimately successful.

We went to find jet' Laya's sister. It resulted in the death of both of them, but we were able to raise jet'laya. Her sister was a banshee and stayed dead.

Baldr020.jpg

We killed the dragon and having picked up the DSoSC NPCs, we have cleared the upper floors of Castle Daerthmac.

Time for bed.
