Bioware has officially closed

What a shame. This looks closer to the original vision of Mass Effect everyone was hoping for.

But I have a feeling that if it was anywhere close to halfway complete, it will find a way to see the light of day. I would assume the parent company would still own the rights having bought the studio.

Influencer Dantics shared the details about that game:

"Since Bioware closed, I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development.
  • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War
  • You play as a customizable N7 agent
  • Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond
  • Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending
  • A galaxy divided into three major factions
  • Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together
  • Council races forming their own alliance
  • The Geth emerging as a third superpower
  • A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary
  • Geth-built megastructures
  • Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda
  • Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference
  • Hacking and manipulating the environment
  • See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more
  • Handcrafted missions like ME1-3
  • But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them
  • Brutal close-range executions
  • Squadmates who can clash with each other
  • Romance wasn't being sanitised
  • Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch"

While it was abundantly clear that all was not well at Bioware for many, many years now and I half-expected this day was coming, it's still sad to see yet another of the iconic game development houses of the 90's finally be buried. :( They still made SO many of my favourite games that were a huge, HUGE part of my teens and early 20's.

Goodbye Bioware. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories you gave me across the years, whether in Baldur's Gate, KotOR, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and more. It was an unforgettable ride.

For me, Bioware never missed until the Post-ME3 era. Jade Empire, Kotor, and Neverwinter Nights are considered some of their more niche titles, but they remain some of my favorite RPGs of all time and I have fond memories of them all.
